The opposition deputy is concerned about the rapidly growing external debt of Latvia.
Saeima deputy from the United List, Edwards Smiltenš, referenced a book in an interview with TV-24, which was published after the economic crisis of 2009-2012 by former Prime Minister and now European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis. In this book, the politician from 'New Unity' convincingly argued that creating state debt is dangerous and a dead-end path. However, Smiltenš reminded that the current leaders of 'New Unity' are rapidly accumulating loans, acting on the principle of 'after us, the deluge.'
"It must be said that we have politically become complacent. It is clear that after the elections, with a new government, there will be a consolidation (cutting of expenses) of funds," said Ed. Smiltenš.
