This is a unique case in the history of Latvian public administration – a person not from the management or even the political system has begun to 'drive' the working group of the government.
It should be noted that the head of the group for combating bureaucracy has been appointed by the Prime Minister as Janis Endzinsh, one of the leaders of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He has already left his previous position to fully dedicate himself to the fight against the bureaucratic monster.
In an interview with Latvian Radio, Endzinsh noted that one can fight bureaucracy even until retirement, and also leave this struggle as a legacy to children.
Therefore, it would be more appropriate to focus on two things – on ensuring that bureaucracy at least does not grow any further, and on gradually eliminating those small bureaucratic “nonsense” that still exist and from which the officials themselves are in no hurry to rid.
To be fair, certain steps have been taken in the fight against bureaucracy – in particular, entrepreneurs have been relieved of the need to provide and duplicate information to various regulatory authorities, as all this information has long been available in public registers.
There is also a process underway to simplify legislation in the field of construction. A significant portion of services in public administration can now be obtained remotely, meaning that the “paper turnover” has decreased. But, of course, Endzinsh and his team still have a large amount of work ahead...
