The expert is full of pessimism regarding Europe's influence on the peace plan initiated by Trump.
As noted this evening on the show Nekā personīga on TV-3, although Western leaders promised to listen to the opinions of the Baltic states regarding Russia, this is not happening in reality. This was acknowledged in a conversation with journalists by the former Latvian ambassador and lecturer Gints Jegermanis: "Earlier this year, we had hope that we would be at some tables. But it seems that those who can still make a difference in Europe are the large countries – Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and in certain formats, Italy. But small countries are somewhere in the shadows, in the background. We perceive the backdrop and try to promote the conversation so that Ukraine suffers as little as possible in this process, but if Europe is ignored, then, of course, no one in Washington is concerned about the Balts at this moment.
In this first season, each episode essentially follows the same script. Americans want to negotiate something with the Russians. Europeans find out about this at some point; there are protests, there is diplomacy, there are calls, there are golf games, Europe returns to the table, but neither Trump nor Russia really takes them into account. In this situation, I do not see anything good in the near future.
