The war in Ukraine highlights the importance of developing technologies, especially drones, cybersecurity, and leveraging the experience of the civilian sector, Prime Minister Evika Silina stated on Wednesday at the opening of the NATO German-Dutch Corps conference.

She emphasized that the security of Latvia is ensured through investments in the military sector, civil defense, crisis management, and societal resilience. "We are consciously investing in the military industry and innovations, strengthening the economy of Latvia," said Silina, adding that together with allies, Latvia is enhancing the security of the entire region.

The German-Dutch Corps is one of the NATO Very High Readiness Forces headquarters. It is capable of taking command of any mission with up to 60,000 troops, including land, sea, and air forces, ready for rapid deployment anywhere in the world. In the future, all NATO land force units stationed in Latvia and Estonia will be under the command of Germany and the Netherlands.
