The 'Green Farmers' Will Present an Ultimatum to Silina. The Government is Hanging by a Thread

Already on Monday, the 'internal opposition' will voice its demands to the prime minister. Their non-fulfillment could lead to the collapse of the government.

Even on Thursday morning, Prime Minister Evika Silina ('New Unity') was surely confident that 'the escalation is behind us' and at least the 2026 budget would be supported by all coalition deputies. The first warning that this might not happen came yesterday closer to noon when two deputies from the Union of Greens and Farmers, along with the opposition, voted for the resignation of Minister of Transport Atis Švinka ('Progressives'). And only by a miracle, with a two-vote margin, did the minister manage to retain his position. However, the nerve-wracking situation for the prime minister did not end there - today, an emergency meeting of the board of the Union of Greens and Farmers was held, where it was decided to effectively present the prime minister with an ultimatum - either the 2026 budget will allocate funds for passenger bus transportation in the provinces and from the provinces to Riga and back, or... the government will come to an end, meaning the 'Green Farmers' will either leave it or not vote for the budget, which would mean an automatic termination of the government's powers. The head of the Union of Greens and Farmers, Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze, made it clear today where to find the money for passenger transportation - to abandon the idea of allocating 8 million euros for the redesign of the Rail Baltica project.

If the regions are not supported, it could mean the end of the government, said the chairman of the board of the Union of Greens and Farmers (UGF) Armands Krauze to the LETA agency, noting that on Monday, November 24, the issue of regional transportation will be discussed at a meeting of the parties forming the government.

"On Monday, a conversation with the prime minister is scheduled at the coalition council, and the main issue will be related to regional transportation. These transports are important for people to get to work, hospitals, and schools.

Funding has been found for the 'Rail Baltica' project, that is, for the construction of new pillars on the Daugava. But for passenger transportation in the regions - there is none!

The 'Progressives' are currently torpedoing the government with such proposals and do not support the regions. If this approach continues and the regions are not supported, it could mean the end of the government," A. Krauze threatened.

It cannot be ruled out that the prime minister will make some statement on this matter today. It can be considered that the government crisis has already begun.
