If the regions do not receive support, it could mean the end of the government, stated Armand Krauze, chairman of the board of the Union of Greens and Farmers (UGF), to the LETA agency, noting that on Monday, November 24, the issue of regional transport will be discussed at the coalition party cooperation meeting.
On Friday, the Union of Greens and Farmers (UGF) convened an extraordinary board meeting regarding the political situation.
According to Krauze, a discussion with Prime Minister Evika Silina is scheduled for Monday's coalition party meeting, with the main topic being regional transportation. This transport is necessary for people to reach their jobs, hospitals, and schools.
Krauze stated that although Transport Minister Aitis Švinklis ('Progressives') has remained in his position thanks to UGF votes, he has submitted proposals for regional transportation without real funding. However, funding has been found for the 'Rail Baltica' project, 'to build new pillars on the Daugava.' Krauze believes it is completely unacceptable to cut regional transport while money for such projects is available.
In Krauze's opinion, such policies, along with the actions of the 'Progressives,' who effectively represent the interests of Riga, destabilize the government. The UGF will never accept that residents of the regions are left without public transport, emphasized Krauze.
He believes that the 'Progressives' are currently torpedoing the government with such proposals and are not supporting the regions. If this approach continues and the regions do not receive support, it could mean the end of the government, the politician warned.
