Atis Švinka was voted against... by a former minister and a representative of one of the ruling parties!
Peace is just a dream for them... The calm in the coalition after the scandal surrounding the exit from the Istanbul Convention lasted just over two weeks. And now a new escalation! Today, after hours of debate regarding the activities of Atis Švinka ('Progressives') as Minister of Communications, a vote was held on the opposition's initiative to express no confidence in the head of the Ministry of Communications. The result shocked primarily the 'Progressives' - it was only by a miracle that Švinka managed to remain in the ministerial chair! 45 deputies voted for his dismissal, 47 pressed the 'against' button, and one deputy abstained.
It turned out that the expression of no confidence in the Minister of Communications was supported by a deputy from the coalition member Union of Greens and Farmers, former Minister of Welfare in the Silinie government, and in previous years - Minister of Communications Uldis Augulis! It is clear that the 'Progressives' will demand explanations from their coalition partners! The 'abstaining' deputy was independent Igor Raev, a parliamentary secretary at the Ministry of the Interior, who has always supported the government.
However, for now, the Silinie government will remain in power - at least until the budget is adopted, that is, until December 4-5.
