You Do Not Respect Our Values!» and «We Need to Restore Common Sense!»

Ruling politicians argued live on air.

This evening, the host of the program "Kas notiek Latvijā?" on LTV-1, Jānis Domburs, tried to find out from the ruling politicians whether they were ready to continue working as a team and how they planned to overcome the crisis that arose after the "Green Farmers" joined the opposition regarding Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention.

As a result, a heated argument broke out live on air. The head of the Saeima faction "Progressives," Andris Šuvajevs, continued to accuse the "Green Farmers" of violating the coalition agreement and insisted that the actions of the Union of Greens and Farmers (UGF) could not go unpunished. The Minister of Economics, Viktors Valainis from the UGF, in response, reproached his partners for their unwillingness to respect the values (principles) of this political force.

The leader of the parliamentary faction "New Unity," Edmunds Jurēvics, effectively sided with the "Progressives" on the issue of the convention and called to "restore common sense." The deputy categorically disagreed that the Istanbul Convention was in any way related to issues of sexual education for children and support for transgender rights.

As A. Šuvajevs continued to speak about the need to "punish" the "Green Farmers," hinting at the dismissal of the Minister of Welfare, V. Valainis threatened with a "symmetrical response," meaning a demand to dismiss some minister from both the "Progressives" and "New Unity." It was in such a "spirited" atmosphere that the discussion among government partners took place.
