At the polling stations in Riga's Grizinkalns, election day is proceeding without serious incidents. The most notable incident was an attempt by a man to vote with an expired passport, which resulted in him being denied a ballot.
The polling stations in Grizinkalns maintained a calm atmosphere on Saturday. Despite occasional queues, voting proceeded without serious disruptions, and isolated incidents did not affect the work of the commissions.
At polling station No. 87 on Deglava Street, one voter initially refused to provide his personal code. When staff explained that it was impossible to vote without an identification document, the man presented his passport. It turned out that it had expired back in August, so he was not allowed to vote. After some explanations, the man calmly left the polling station, stating that the issue would be resolved.
For voters, this means that even on election day, it is necessary to have a valid identification document with them. An expired passport does not grant the right to receive voting materials.
At the same polling station, it was reported that there were no serious technical problems. One of the service phones went out of order; however, this did not affect the voting process as the commission used other devices.
At polling station No. 86, located in the "Wooden Riga" museum, a queue formed around noon that extended outside the building. According to the head of the commission, the highest flow of voters occurred at this time. During the early voting days, this polling station was also among the most visited in the capital, with many young people traditionally voting here.
Another minor incident occurred here: an elderly woman accidentally tore off part of the envelope that should only be opened during the vote counting. She was issued a new envelope, and the situation was documented in the established manner. This did not noticeably affect the operation of the polling station.
Polling station No. 85 at the I. G. Herder Riga Grizinkalns Secondary School also reported calm operations. After noon, a queue briefly formed, but by one o'clock it had completely disappeared.
Polling station managers also reported that by midday, no cases of illegal election campaigning were recorded either in the voting premises or nearby.
Overall, the voting day in Grizinkalns is proceeding without serious violations. The main difficulties are only related to individual cases of document processing and a temporary increase in the number of voters during peak hours.
