Voting was re-organized at the Riga Central Prison for the elections to the 15th Saeima after one of the inmates was able to vote with an expired document. The Central Election Commission annulled all ballots from this polling station and decided to conduct the voting again.

At the Riga Central Prison, voting had to be re-organized on election day after a violation was discovered during the document verification of one of the voters.

According to the Central Election Commission, during the voting process, it was revealed that one of the inmates, included in the voter list of the correctional facility, received a ballot and voted, despite the fact that the validity of his identification document had already expired.

By the time the error was discovered, the ballot envelope was already in the ballot box and mixed with the other ballots. Since it was impossible to separate it, the commission decided to annul all votes cast at this polling station.

This decision was made to eliminate any doubts about the legality of the voting results at this specific polling station. It is not related to a review of the overall election results.

At an extraordinary meeting, the Central Election Commission decided to conduct a repeat vote for all registered voters at this polling station.

The repeat voting began on Saturday and will continue until the last voter has the opportunity to vote.

The CEC emphasized that the violation was identified and rectified on election day, therefore it will not affect the overall process of counting results across the country.

Only those votes cast during the repeat voting, conducted in accordance with the established procedure, will be included in the final election results.
