Since the beginning of the election campaigning period, the Bureau for Prevention and Combating Corruption (BPBC) has received a total of 148 signals about possible violations of election campaigning; however, the day before the elections to the 15th Saeima is assessed as calm, the LETA agency found out at the BPBC.
So far, in some cases, residents have drawn the attention of institutions to the advertising placed in the urban environment.
To verify these cases, the BPBC collaborates with the State Police. Several signals have also been received regarding free communication from candidates for deputies and other individuals on social media.
The BPBC reminds that the law on election campaigning today and tomorrow prohibits paid campaigning on social media; however, it does not restrict the opportunities for parties, candidates for deputies, and non-affiliated individuals to publish unpaid content on social media.
The election campaigning period began on June 6.
So far, the BPBC has initiated 16 administrative offense proceedings. Four of them are related to the failure to submit a notification of election campaigning, one is for the illegal use of administrative resources, and 11 are for campaign materials placed in public locations without indicating the client.
