With the start of the swimming season and the influx of vacationers, the Riga City Council recommends that residents and guests of the city use public transport and micro-mobility options more often. On hot days, finding a parking space at popular beaches can be challenging.

The Riga municipality has urged residents and visitors of the capital to choose public transport, bicycles, and scooters for trips to the city beaches.

The city hall notes that with the onset of warm weather, the number of vacationers by the water significantly increases. Particularly high pressure on the infrastructure is observed on weekends and during hot summer days when parking near popular recreation spots fills up quickly.

Therefore, in some cases, getting to the beach by train, bus, or bicycle may be faster and more convenient than by personal car.

One of the most accessible destinations remains Vecaki, which can be reached by both train and city buses. Public transport also connects to other municipal beaches in Riga.

An additional advantage is the cycling routes. Several beaches are already connected by developed cycling infrastructure, allowing visitors to avoid traffic jams and not waste time searching for available parking spaces. This may be especially relevant for many vacationers in the coming weeks when temperatures start to rise and the number of beach visitors increases.

The municipality also reminded that during the swimming season, the municipal police pay increased attention to parking regulations. Drivers are advised to consider possible restrictions in advance and not to leave their vehicles in prohibited areas.

Authorities hope that using alternative modes of transport will help reduce the transportation load near the beaches and make the experience more comfortable for all visitors.
