The discussion on social media was sparked by one woman's experience during a flight lasting over three hours. She recounts that a boy sitting behind her kept pushing and kicking her seat.

“It was a three-hour flight, and there was a boy sitting behind me who kept pushing my seat. I looked back once, twice, three times — nothing changed. My patience ran out, so I turned around and looked at the mother,” Ilze writes.

According to her, the child's mother reacted quite sharply.

“She leaned over to me almost between the seats and asked: ‘Do you have a problem?’” the woman recalls. When the passenger explained that the child was kicking her seat, the mother responded that her son was only touching his tray table, not the seat in front. “If you have a problem — go find another place to sit,” the mother pointed out.

“Of course, one must give credit to the mother for defending her child, but children should still be taught to respect other passengers and control their behavior so they don’t disturb others. This is probably how dislike for children on planes arises. You sit quietly in your seat and involuntarily tense up when a child walks down the aisle: ‘I just hope their seat isn’t next to mine,’ because you never know how they will behave. I fly regularly, and there have been many children on flights — including very well-behaved and pleasant ones. But this case was something special. It’s not even about the child, but rather about the mother. If this mother happens to read my post — it’s commendable that you prioritize your children and defend your child. But it’s still worth teaching them that the world doesn’t revolve around one person. You are raising a future man,” Ilze shares her thoughts.

The post quickly attracted a lot of attention, and a broad discussion unfolded in the comments. Many users expressed the opinion that the problem lies not in the child’s behavior, but in the attitude of adults.

“A child is a child, the mother is foolish,” one commentator writes, while another notes that in such cases, the best solution is often the intervention of flight attendants.

Several parents admitted that during flights, they pay special attention to ensure their children do not disturb other passengers. “If my little one accidentally bumps someone’s seat, I immediately feel awkward. I watch him the whole flight to make sure he doesn’t kick the seat in front,” one mother writes.

Meanwhile, other participants in the discussion pointed out that discomfort on planes is not only caused by children. One commentator recalled a night flight during which an adult passenger was pushing his seat because the person in front reclined their seat to sleep.
