In Riga, the Kengarags neighborhood is expecting a transport "revolution" starting Monday, June 1: four popular routes are being extended and a new mobile point is opening. In total, the tracks of the 7th tram have been extended by 2.2 kilometers.
As part of this project, funded by the EU, a mobile point, a new dispatch service building, and access roads from both streets were constructed at the intersection of Latgales and Vishku streets. The line for the 15th trolleybus has also been extended by 300 meters along Vishku street.
Another good piece of news: starting Saturday, May 30, the municipal carrier Rīgas satiksme (RS) will launch additional buses to the Riga beaches in Vecaki and Vakarbulli.
Trams No. 7 and 14: new stops are opening
From June 1, tram No. 7 will run from Ausekļa street to the new terminus "Kengarags". After the usual stop "Eglaines / Dole Street", the tram will continue along Latgales street straight to the new transport hub.
In the direction of the city center, the tram will follow the same route. And another piece of news for passengers: due to the extension of the route on the "seven", the number of trips will also increase.
Tram route No. 14 is also being extended - to the terminus "Kengarags". However, the number of trips on route 14 will remain the same. Three new stops have been equipped on the added section of tracks for trams in both directions: "Rasas Street", "Ikshkilas Street", and the terminus "Mobile Point Kengarags".
The trolleybus goes further and longer
Starting in June, trolleybus No. 15 will also carry passengers to the terminus "Kengarags". After reaching the current stop "Vishku Street", the trolleybuses will continue to the new mobile point and then return.
The number of trips on the most popular trolleybus route will not change; however, the exact departure times from the terminus will be adjusted for some trips.
Significant changes will also affect bus No. 49. Buses will no longer go to the old terminus on Vishku street. Now their final stop will be the new transfer hub "Kengarags", located right at the intersection of Latgales and Vishku streets.
The number of trips will remain the same, but the departure times for some trips will change. Passengers should note that due to these innovations, the stop for the 49th bus "Vishku Street", which was located in front of the old loop, will be closed. Minor adjustments will also be made to the schedules of trams No. 1 and 11.
How to get to the sea
Riga's transport will switch to summer mode at the end of the week: there will be more trips to the beaches. From May 30 to August 30, the number of trips on bus routes No. 36 and 58 will increase. For bus No. 58, some trips will now be extended to Vecaki. As a result, the number of available trips that go directly to the seaside beach will significantly increase.
Bus route No. 36 will also receive additional trips that will head directly to Vakarbulli. Additionally, the departure times from the terminus stations in the morning hours will change slightly on this route.
As for bus No. 56, the departure times from the terminus points will change by just a few minutes. The total number of trips on this route will remain the same. A. Gorodnitsky
