Studying popular Latvian classifieds, one might get the impression that the country is experiencing a boom in Soviet coins.

What are people looking for right now?

For example, a silver ruble from 1924, on which a proletarian is persistently leading a peasant somewhere, 3 kopecks from 1924, and 1 kopeck from 1924, for which, if it is in good condition, they are offering a starting price of 10,000 euros!

The post-war year of 1947 is held in high regard. 5, 10, and 20 kopecks, and ideally, they are asking for the entire set of coins from 1947! Here, the price is already 30,000 euros!

Not as high, but recent history is also valued.

  • Some coins from 1965 to 1976 are selling very well, as they were minted in small quantities, - explains Riga numismatist Mikhail Yarushkin. - Coins from this period are worth from dozens to several hundred euros...
