Riga residents share videos on social media showing lines at city gas stations. The comments are not flattering for the authorities.
One of the local gas station chains decided today to sell gasoline and diesel for about 40 cents (almost 20 percent) cheaper than, for example, the largest gas station network Circle K.
Lines of cars immediately formed at the discounting gas stations.
One of the passing Latvian drivers could not understand for a long time why there was an uneven line of cars. Eventually, she saw that the line of cars ended at the gas station. “Like in Russian times,” the driver exclaimed.
A post on TikTok quickly attracted several dozen commentators who expanded and deepened the topic of gasoline and diesel trade:
– There were never lines at gas stations during the USSR... (Castleford).
– That was during the collapse and the early 90s. (ddhiu6Taxi Bee).
– Not in the time of Krievu laika, but when Latvia gained freedom. Back in Krievu laika, fuel cost 4 kopecks. (Pilot).
– Good job! At least the prices are reasonable. (Nice).
– They are standing there and not thinking about the quality of cheap gasoline. Soon there will be lines at Riga's auto services. (userp47hkbqecd).
– Why does everyone say Russian time? It seems Soviet, when everyone consulted, decided how to live and distribute. (Sergey Komarocky).
