March of this year in Latvia — the warmest and fourth driest in the history of observations

The past month has become the warmest March in the history of meteorological observations in Latvia, sharing this record with 2007, according to aggregated data from the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LCEGM), reports LETA.

The average air temperature in the country exceeded the norm by 4.2 degrees, reaching +4.4 degrees. The lowest temperature recorded by the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LCEGM) was -8.4 degrees in Daugavpils on March 8, while the highest temperature of the month, +17.9 degrees, was registered at the observation station in Daugavpils on March 29.

Throughout March, the air temperature was above normal, with a total of 123 daily temperature records broken, five of which were national records.

The average precipitation in March was only 6.1 millimeters, or 17% of the norm, making this March the fourth driest in the history of observations since 1924.

The highest amount of precipitation — 15.7 millimeters — fell in Ainaži, while in Daugavpils, it did not exceed 2.4 millimeters.

The average relative humidity in March was 76% — ranging from 69% in Daugavpils and Rēzekne to 86% in Liepāja.

The strongest wind gusts — 22.2 meters per second — were recorded on March 25 in Ventspils.
