Small Markets Will Always Be More Expensive

The head of the Latvian Confederation of Employers on competition in retail.

Andris Bite, the President of the Latvian Confederation of Employers, explained in an interview with TV-24: "The costs of capturing a share of the markets in Poland and Latvia are roughly the same; however, it is clear that for the same retail chains, it is more advantageous to enter the Polish market with 36 million residents than the Latvian market with 1.8 million residents.

It is evident that prices for goods in small markets - for example, in Latvia - will always be higher than in larger markets, that is, in bigger countries."

What can the authorities do in this situation? They can only create a more favorable business environment so that other retail chains find it profitable to come to Latvia.
