Air temperatures in Latvia will rise to +10...+15 degrees on the warmest days of next week, according to current weather forecasts.
Both this weekend and next week, the sun will often shine, with occasional fog expected and rain possible in rare cases. The wind will predominantly blow from the southwest.
In the coming nights, temperatures in many regions of the country will drop below zero, with temperatures possibly reaching -7 degrees in Latgale on Sunday night. Nights will become slightly warmer next week.
During the day, the air will warm up to +10...+15 degrees, with cooler conditions along the coast due to winds from the cold sea.
According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, the national heat record for the first decade of March is +17.4 degrees set on March 10 last year in Liepaja, while the record for the second decade of the month was established in 1990 in Daugavpils and Skriveri at +18.4 degrees.
It is expected that by mid-March, the snow will melt across Latvia, except for a few places in the southeast.
Next week, the melting snow will continue to raise the water level in the Lielupe river basin, while a faster rise in water levels is expected in the Daugava basin and, in places, the Gauja.
Water levels will decrease in the rivers of Kurzeme, except for the Venta and rivers in the southern region, as well as in the rivers in the northwestern Vidzeme.
