Starting March 9, a new speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour will be introduced on certain streets and their sections in several areas of Riga — Kipsala, Imanta, Ziepniekkalns, and Shkirotava, the external communications department of the Riga City Council reported.

Speed limits are necessary to enhance road safety and align traffic speeds with the existing street infrastructure.

A speed limit zone of 30 km/h is planned to be introduced throughout the Kipsala area, except for streets where a residential zone is already in place, where speeds must be even lower. This decision was made "considering the narrow profile of the streets, as well as the intense movement of cyclists and pedestrians."

Additionally, to improve traffic safety and ensure speeds that correspond to the existing infrastructure, the maximum allowed speed will be reduced on the section of Rayumsila Street between Krustpils Street and Dzirkalju Street. There are no sidewalks on this section.

To make traffic organization safer and ensure speeds that are appropriate for the urban environment near pedestrian crossings and adjacent to the park, the maximum allowed speed will be reduced to 30 km/h on the section of Ebelmuizas Street between Valdeku Street and Livciema Street.

Furthermore, parking of vehicles will be restricted near pedestrian crossings to improve visibility for pedestrians and enhance traffic safety on the relevant sections of the streets.

A speed limit will also be introduced in Imanta — on the section of Skandu Street from Kurzemes Avenue 3B to house No. 14 on Skandu Street.
