On the night of Wednesday, in some places in the eastern part of Latvia, the air temperature dropped to -24 to -26 degrees, according to data from the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LCEGM) and "Latvijas Valsts ceļi", reports LETA.

The strongest frost was recorded at the meteorological station in Madona, as well as in some areas around Jekabpils and in the Ludza region.

At five o'clock in the morning, the air temperature in the western and central parts of the country was -10 to -15 degrees, and in some eastern areas, it reached -25 degrees. The strongest frost at that time was observed in Madona and in the vicinity of Zilupe.

A light eastern and southeastern wind was blowing. Air quality ranged from good to moderate.

The sky was predominantly cloudy, with clear skies in some areas of Vidzeme and Latgale. In the southwest of the country, it was snowing in the morning.

The thickness of the snow cover at meteorological stations ranged from five centimeters in Mersrags and seven centimeters in Kolka, Daugavgriva, Ainazi, and Rujiena to 52 centimeters in Sili of the Livonian region and 56 centimeters in Dagda.

In Riga, the sky was overcast, a southeast wind was blowing at a speed of four meters per second, and the air temperature was -11 to -13 degrees. The thickness of the snow cover at the meteorological station in the city center was 23 centimeters.

The maximum air temperature on Tuesday in the observation network of the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LCEGM) ranged from -4.9 degrees in Ventspils to -12.2 degrees in Skriveri.

The highest air temperature in Europe on February 17 was +26 degrees in Spain. The lowest temperature on the night of Wednesday was -32 degrees in northern Finland and -35 degrees in Russia.
