Soon, many areas of Latvia will experience temperatures colder than -20 degrees. In coastal areas and near bodies of water, where humidity is high, the frost will be particularly noticeable.
On Monday evening and during the night into Tuesday, the air temperature in most parts of the country will drop to -17 to -25 degrees, forecasters predict.
In the west and north of Latvia, the frost will be milder: in some coastal areas, the temperature will not drop below -10 degrees. In some regions of the country, fog and hoarfrost will form, while clear weather will persist in many places.
From 8:00 PM on Monday to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, a yellow warning for severe frost will be in effect across most of Latvia, issued by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, while in the south of the country, an orange warning will be in effect from 11:00 PM to 9:00 AM.
On Tuesday, there will be more clouds, and light snow will fall in some areas, with air temperatures rising to -4 to -10 degrees.
In the next 24 hours, a weak southern wind is forecasted.
In Riga on Tuesday, it will be overcast with no precipitation. At night, the temperature will drop to -17 degrees, and in some suburban areas, it will reach -22 degrees. During the day, the temperature will rise to -9 degrees.
