Heavy Snow and Blizzards Expected in Latvia Tomorrow

From Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning, heavy snow will fall in the extreme south of Latvia, and blizzards are also expected, meteorologists forecast.

The heaviest snowfall is expected in Kurzeme and Zemgale near the Lithuanian border, as well as in southern Selia and Latgale, where the snow cover may increase by ten centimeters in some areas. The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre has issued a yellow warning for the southern part of the country. No significant precipitation is expected in northern Latvia.

On the night of Wednesday, a moderate northeast wind will blow, with gusts up to 16 meters per second near the bay. The air temperature will range from -6 to -11 degrees, dropping to -15 degrees in the northeast.

During the day, cloud cover will decrease from the northwest, and the sun will shine in many areas of Latvia. In the afternoon, snow will continue only in Selia and southern Latgale. Drifting snow is possible.

On Wednesday, the northeast wind will strengthen to 9-14 meters per second, with gusts up to 16 meters per second along the Kurzeme coast of the Gulf of Riga. The maximum air temperature is expected to range from -5 degrees on the Kurzeme coast to -11 degrees in Vidzeme and Latgale.

Light snow is expected in Riga at night, with decreasing cloud cover during the day. The northeast wind will strengthen to 11 meters per second. The air temperature will be -10 degrees at night and -8 degrees during the day.
