In 2025, a ninth child was born in one family in Jelgava, and a sixth child was born in two families, according to data collected by the civil registry department of the city of Jelgava and the region.

Last year, 331 new residents were registered in the department — 170 girls and 161 boys. However, a total of 380 newborns were registered in 2025, living in the city — 49 children residing in the city were first registered in another civil registry department in Latvia.

122 of the children first registered in Jelgava are the first children in the family, 125 are the second children, and 58 are the third children. In 15 families, the fourth child was born, in seven families, the fifth, in two families, the sixth, and in one family, the ninth.

Last year, the most popular name chosen by parents for girls in Jelgava was Emilia, which was given to 11 girls. It was also the most popular in 2024. Nine girls were named Amelia, and the names Elizabeth, Paula, and Esther were also popular.

On the other hand, the most popular names for boys registered in the civil registry department in Jelgava last year were Rodrigo, Gustav, and Marks — each was given to five boys.
