The strongest blizzard in Latvia on Friday will be in Latgale, Selia, and parts of Vidzeme, forecasters predict, writes LETA.
No precipitation is expected, except in Latgale and Selia, where snowfall will accompany the blizzard starting from the border with Belarus. Drifts will form on certain sections of the roads.
The speed of the northeast wind will reach 13–18 meters per second in gusts, and along the coast from Jūrmala to Ovišrags — up to 20–22 meters per second.
The air temperature will range from -7 to -12 degrees, and in northern Kurzeme — from -3 to -6 degrees. Considering the cooling effect of the wind, Friday will be the coldest day of this winter in Latvia.
In Riga, the first working week of the year will end with cloudy weather without precipitation. The northern and northeastern wind will gust up to 15 meters per second, and in Jūrmala — up to 20 meters per second. The air temperature will rise to -7..-8 degrees.
Weather conditions are determined by a cyclone, the center of which is slowly moving from Ukraine northward along the border of Belarus and Russia. Atmospheric pressure at sea level ranges from 1007 hPa in southern Latgale to 1017 hPa in the extreme north of Kurzeme and Vidzeme.
