The thickness of the snow cover in Rucava reached 30 centimeters

In Latvia, the thickest snow cover formed in the south of Kurzeme — 30 centimeters of snow fell in Rucava, according to data from the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LCEGM), reports LETA.

This is also the thickest snow cover in the country since February 2024, when a 37-centimeter layer of snow was recorded at the meteorological station in Dagda.

In recent days, snow clouds coming from the sea have mostly affected the west of Lithuania, where in some places the snow cover exceeded half a meter, as well as the southern regions of Kurzeme.

According to data from the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LCEGM), the second thickest snow cover in Latvia — 20 centimeters — was recorded in Liepaja, followed by Dagda with 19 centimeters and Skriveri with 18 centimeters. More than five centimeters of snow covers most of the country.

On Monday morning, light snow was falling in some areas, with heavier snow in certain regions in the south of the country. In some places, the sky is clearing. The wind is weak or absent. Air quality ranges from good to moderate.

At 5 a.m., the air temperature at the country's meteorological stations ranged from -1.3 degrees in Kolka to -9.2 degrees in Dobele.

In Riga, it is cloudy, with a weak southeast wind blowing, and the air temperature at five in the morning was -3 degrees in the city center and -6 degrees at the airport. The thickness of the snow cover at the meteorological station in the city center is nine centimeters.

The maximum air temperature in Latvia on Sunday ranged from -3 to +2 degrees.

The highest air temperature in Europe on January 4 was +21 degrees in Greece. The lowest air temperature recorded on the night of Monday was minus 39 degrees in northern Finland.
