At the end of the year, Latvia may experience a prolonged cold spell, according to the latest weather forecasts, writes LETA.
Christmas in most parts of the country will be frosty but snowless; however, during the holiday days, the air will become warmer — on the Second Day of Christmas, the temperature will rise to +2..+7 degrees. The western wind will strengthen somewhat, shifting to the north, with little precipitation and the sky mostly covered with clouds.
According to the latest forecasts, colder air from the north will begin to flow into Latvia in the last two days of the year. On New Year's Eve, frost is expected across the country, and in many places, the ground will be covered with snow.
At the beginning of January, temperatures may drop below ten degrees. According to data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, the average air temperature in Latvia in January 2026 could be -5 degrees, which is two degrees below normal. If the forecast is confirmed, this will be the coldest month since January 2024, when the average temperature in the country was -5.2 degrees.
