As the New Year holidays approach, anxiety and nervous disorders intensify, but getting help from a psychiatrist or psychotherapist is not so easy.
The news service of Latvian TV points out that during the darkest months of the year, many people feel depressed, and during this time, the number of those seeking help increases. Crisis hotline specialists are equally busy throughout the year; however, it has been noted that the number of calls increased by about 15% at the end of last year.
During this time, the topics of conversations with specialists also change somewhat. People talk more about financial difficulties and challenges in relationships with relatives.
On average across the country, the waiting time for a specialist - psychiatrist or psychotherapist - is more than two months.
For psychologists and psychiatrists, it is 69 and 62 days respectively, while state-funded psychotherapists are currently completely unavailable!
