The Christmas Market Opens in Riga's Dome Square

Today, the Christmas market opens in Riga's Dome Square, reports the LETA agency, citing the company "Vecrīgas Ziemassvētku tirdziņš."

The market will operate until January 4 of the following year.

In Dome Square, visitors will be able to view and purchase products from Latvian artisans and home producers, as well as enjoy a variety of dishes and drinks from more than 80 vendors.

The opening of the market and a concert by the 10th studio of the Dailes Theatre are scheduled for November 30 at 5:00 PM.

At the stalls of artisans and home producers, visitors can buy woven products, wooden items and toys, knitted goods, amber and silver jewelry, games, decorations, leather products, candles, sheep wool items, as well as various food and drinks — honey, gingerbread, hemp and meat products, jams, sauces, syrups, hot and cold beverages.

The market will feature entertainment for children — on weekends and holidays, visitors can meet Santa Claus and gnomes, ride on a carousel, take pony rides, see sheep, and participate in creative workshops.

On weekends, a rich cultural program is planned — from folklore and folk dances to dance evenings with DJs.

The event program can be found on the market's website vzt.lv.

The market's host, Andris Kreislers, notes that he has been organizing the Christmas market in Dome Square for 25 years, and during this time Riga has entered the European space while preserving the unique atmosphere of the Riga market and supporting Latvian masters and artisans.

According to information from "Firmas.lv", the LLC "Vecrīgas Ziemassvētku tirdziņš" was registered in 2001. Last year, the company operated with a turnover of 354,000 euros and a profit of 85,590 euros. The enterprise is fully owned by Kreislers.
