In an interview with the LTV program “Viens pret vienu,” Colonel NVS Antonina Blēdone admitted that she is scared by the thought that Latvian thinking is such that the majority would rather flee. She cited Ukrainians as an example, who, in her opinion, will try to return to their country to help it and continue to have children.

“I think we will perish if we run away and do not try to defend ourselves. Our task is to protect this country,” said A. Blēdone.

She noted that she does not mean children — children should not see war, they should not live in it, as children are our future.

The colonel cited Israel as an example, where a ceasefire is currently in effect, but the situation remains unsafe. Nevertheless, people there are starting families, and the birth rate is high.

“And in Latvia? When the war in Ukraine started, people here thought: I won’t plant my greenhouse this year — what if there’s a war... We won’t have children for now, we’ll wait until everything calms down. We do not think about the country, we do not think of ourselves as Latvians, as the continuation of the nation — we think about what is convenient for me at the moment,” said Blēdone.

She noted that not everyone is like this, but there are a large number of people who think only of themselves. They consider themselves the “center of the universe,” smarter and better than others, and believe they should save only themselves, but do not feel a sense of belonging to this country. And if something happens — they are ready to flee.

“That will not happen. Then we, as Latvians, will simply perish — and there will be neither Latvia nor Latvians,” concluded Colonel NVS.
