Today from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, the championship "The Largest Pumpkin in Latvia" will take place at the Vermanes Garden stage in Riga, reports LETA.
As part of the event, the most impressive pumpkin of this year's autumn harvest will be determined, as well as — in a special category — the heaviest pumpkin grown by young Latvian farmers.
A total of 39 pumpkins from 15 regions of Latvia have been submitted for the competition — Dobele, Kuldiga, Marupe, Adazi, Sigulda, Saldus, South Kurzeme, Ventspils, Balvi, Tukums, Bauska, Ludza, Liva, Jelgava, and Limbazi.
To date, the heaviest pumpkin in the history of the championship weighed 574 kilograms — this record was set in 2018 by a pumpkin grown by Luiza Neimane in the Kuldiga region.
