In the second decade of October — just like in the first — the weather conditions in Latvia were on average slightly cooler and drier than normal, according to summarized information from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC), writes LETA.
The average air temperature was +6.4 degrees, which is three-tenths of a degree below normal. The highest temperature — +16.5 degrees — was recorded on October 11 at the meteorological station in Jelgava, while the lowest — minus 6.5 degrees — was observed on the morning of October 20 at the meteorological station in Daugavpils.
The amount of precipitation in the second decade of the month averaged 16.7 millimeters across the country, which corresponds to 70% of the norm. The most precipitation fell in Riga — 35.6 millimeters, while the least was recorded in Kolka, where only 8.4 millimeters were registered.
On October 12, residents of the Balvi region reported the first snow. This day also recorded the strongest wind: in Daugavgriva, gusts reached 29 meters per second.
The average relative humidity in mid-October was 85% — ranging from 76% in Ventspils to 90% in Aluksne.
The lowest moisture and drought index for both one and three months was recorded in the Livani region, while the highest humidity over the last month was observed in Riga, and over three months — in the Balvi region.
