Women in Latvia Consider Suicide. Some Have Already Taken Action

This year, the number of calls to the crisis hotline of the "Skalbes" association has increased by one third.

More and more callers describe not only feelings of isolation but also a loss of hope. Among women, there is a growing sense of emotional overload, and the "emotional background" is becoming heavier.

As a result, 17% of women admit to having thoughts of suicide, and 3% confess to having attempted it.

As explained by the head of the association, Anda Shvinka, feelings of loneliness can lead to prolonged stress, depressive states, and even a desire to end one’s life:

"Research shows that the emotional pain threshold at such times can be as real as physical pain, so it is important to take it seriously and make the first step – call the crisis hotline 116123 for emotional support."

"Skalbes" emphasizes that seeking help at an early stage can be crucial in preventing loneliness from turning into a deeper crisis.

As reported by bb.lv, the 24-hour unified crisis phone 116123 is FREE and available in THREE LANGUAGES – Latvian, Russian, and English. There are also 24-hour crisis phones 67222922 or 27722292. Assistance is provided to those located in Latvia.
