Another Fail: Latvian Universities Did Not Even Make It to the Top Thousand Best Universities in the World

None of the four Latvian universities made it to the top 1000 universities in the world, according to the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Riga Technical University (RTU) and the University of Latvia (UL) rank between 1001-1200, Stradina University (RUS) ranks between 1201-1500, and the lowest position is held by the Latvian University of Bioeconomy and Technology (LUBT) at 1501+.

The ranking evaluates the performance of universities in five areas: learning environment, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and international collaboration.

Latvian educational institutions scored the highest in the criterion of "International Collaboration," which reflects the ability of universities to attract foreign students, foreign faculty, and researchers. In this category, RTU received 65.4 points, RUS - 64.6, UL - 50.7, and LUBT - 27.8 points.

The lowest scores were in the criteria for learning and research environments. Except for UL, no university scored more than 30 points in these categories. The research environment of the University of Latvia scored 31.3 points, while the learning environment scored 20.5 points.

Latvian universities have slightly improved their performance over the year. The largest increase was observed at RUS in the category of "Research Quality," where the score rose from 31 to 39.1 points.

This year, a total of 2091 universities from around the world were included in the ranking. The highest position in the ranking is held by the University of Oxford, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with Princeton and Cambridge universities sharing the third place.

Among Baltic universities, the best results were shown by the University of Tartu, which ranked between 301-350.
