Science still does not know the exact causes of aging, a universal way to measure its rate, or a safe method for significant rejuvenation of the body, said Alexey Moskalev, director of the Institute of Biology of Aging and Medicine for Healthy Longevity.
The first unresolved issue identified by the scientist is determining the processes that actually trigger aging, rather than being a consequence of it.
The second question is related to measuring biological age, as different existing methods can yield varying results for the same individual.
The third problem lies in the possibility of reversing age-related changes without simultaneously increasing the risk of cancer and other diseases.
Moskalev also explained the high life expectancy in Japan as a combination of several factors, including low obesity rates, a varied diet, reduced salt intake, blood pressure control, disease prevention, and access to quality healthcare. According to him, the foundations of healthy longevity must be laid long before old age.
