Potap Faces Removal of His Title of Honored Artist of Ukraine: Rapper Proposed an Unusual Exchange 0 1271

A petition to strip Ukrainian rapper and producer Potap of his title "Honored Artist of Ukraine" was published on August 28. At the time of publication, it had gathered 5,340 votes.

The authors of the initiative accuse the artist of publicly disregarding the Ukrainian language and culture. The petition text, in particular, claims that Potap promotes the Russian language as an alternative to Ukrainian and contributes to its increased usage.

The musician has already commented on the appearance of the petition on social media.

"Ready to Voluntarily Give It Up"

Potap reacted to the situation with irony, noting that, apparently, all other problems in the country have been resolved, and now it is time to address his honorary title.

At the same time, the artist stated that he is indeed ready to voluntarily give it up if it helps someone, makes people happier, brings victory closer, or restores their faith.

However, Potap urged not to turn the situation into a "witch hunt" and not to seek another artist to symbolically punish. According to him, Ukraine currently needs unity and common sense.

Asked for the Title of People's Artist in Exchange

But the musician did not stop there. He made his own proposal: Potap is willing to exchange his title of Honored Artist for the title of People's Artist.

He explained his condition by stating that he considers himself a "People's Artist" regardless of official decrees and certificates.

According to Potap, recognition was given to him by the listeners — through concerts, the popularity of songs, filled venues, and two decades of shared history.

"After all, you did not give me the love of the people — it is not for you to take it away," the musician stated.

In conclusion, Potap urged Ukrainians to take care of each other, reminding that the country still faces recovery, raising children, and returning to peaceful life.

Thus, for now, it is only a petition and not a decision to strip Potap of his honorary title. However, the artist has already made it clear: he is ready to part with the status of Honored Artist — although he proposed a much higher status in return.
