Maestro Raimonds Pauls stated that he plans to create a new concert program with young jazz singer Gerda Timrota. According to the composer, her voice impressed him so strongly that he immediately decided to propose a collaboration.
At the concert-presentation of the book about Jānis Peters, the audience was in for an unexpected surprise, writes nra.lv, citing Privātā Dzīve. At the end of the evening, young jazz performer Gerda Timrota took to the stage and performed a song with lyrics by Peters in her own jazz interpretation.
Introducing the singer to the audience, Raimonds Pauls did not miss the opportunity for his signature humor.
“When I called her, the first thing I asked was: do you have a husband?” joked the maestro from the stage.
However, behind the joke was a serious admission. The composer stated that he is already working on the idea of a solo program for the young performer and hopes to prepare it by mid-July.
Gerda Timrota is known not only as a promising jazz vocalist but also as the daughter of TV3 news anchor Girts Timrots.
According to Pauls, he first heard her performance in a recording from the Pink Noise Riga festival. What he heard was enough for him to decide on a collaboration.
“It sounds excellent! She sings beautifully in English and knows how to improvise. I will gladly help her because I see — this is real talent. Such vocal material hasn’t been seen in a long time,” noted the maestro.
Over the past decades, many Latvian performers have passed through Raimonds Pauls' creative projects, and his support has often become an important milestone in the careers of young musicians. Now, the composer’s attention is focused on Gerda Timrota, whom he considers one of the most interesting young vocalists in recent years.
If the plans come to fruition, the audience will be able to hear a new program created specifically for the young jazz singer this summer.
