Videos of competitions began to spread actively on social media.
Beyblades have become popular again in the world – collectible spinning tops that originated in Japan in 1999. Both adults who remember the toy from their childhood and children play with them.
The rules are simple. Participants spin their tops and launch them onto a special arena where they collide with each other. The player whose Beyblade knocks the opponent's top out of the arena wins.
The toy was created based on traditional Japanese spinning tops called bey-goma. It became one of the main hits of the Japanese company Tomy, which merged with the original developer of Beyblades – Takara – in 2006. The company has already noticed a new surge of interest in the toy. In the spring, the number of posts about Beyblades on social media sharply increased. A similar trend is observed in Taiwan.
According to Tomy, 560 million Beyblades have been sold worldwide over the years. They have been supplied to more than 80 countries and regions. The toy has never completely disappeared from the market. The manufacturer continued to release new series that maintained popularity in Japan and other countries.
However, at the beginning of this year, Beyblades found themselves back in the spotlight in Hong Kong. Videos of competitions began to spread actively on social media. After that, residents of the city started gathering in public spaces to hold matches.
Beyblades have also become popular among families with children. Parents play together with their sons and daughters or take them to meetups where they can compete against other participants.
The toys have even appeared in urban schools. This month, one elementary school held a Beyblade tournament as part of its science lessons. The fact is that winning the game largely depends on the laws of physics.
