Doctor Arredondo: the bacterium Helicobacter pylori increases the risk of developing stomach cancer.
Gastroenterologist Malena Garcia Arredondo warned that cancer may develop due to an infection present in every second person. Her words are reported by the publication 20minutos.
According to Arredondo, 40-50 percent of people worldwide are infected with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. Moreover, many people are even unaware of this due to the lack of obvious symptoms, she emphasized.
The specialist noted that in the long term, this bacterium can provoke gastroduodenal ulcers and atrophic gastritis. It also increases the risk of developing stomach cancer. The bacterium can be detected through a breath test or stool analysis, and treatment involves taking antibiotics and medications that reduce stomach acidity, the doctor concluded.
