An incorrect gait can affect a person's mental state.

An incorrect gait can affect a person's mental state. The connection between them was explained by kinesiologist, phytotherapist, and podiatrist Grigory Krutov.

The doctor reminded that with each step, dozens of joints, muscles, and numerous parts of the nervous system responsible for coordination work synchronously. If the feet stop performing their supportive function correctly, the body has to compensate for their work. As a result, the brain spends additional resources to maintain balance and coordinate movements, while a deformed foot engages additional muscle groups in movement, leading to chronic muscle tension and fatigue. This, in turn, overloads the central nervous system. Following heaviness in the legs, lower back pain, and fatigue, this will lead to irritability, anxiety, sleep problems, and other mental disorders.

The harmful walking pattern can be changed by working on movement coordination and restoring the proper function of the muscles. The doctor advised to make an appointment with a podiatrist for diagnostics. The doctor may prescribe custom-made full-contact foot orthoses.
