Alexey Murashko began working in book design unexpectedly — when he lost his job. He is now one of the leading world designers of print publications. The artist hails from Belarus but has lived in Latvia for almost twenty years, and is now recognized as the best book designer in Europe, as reported by the program "900 Seconds" (TV3).
The European Design Awards have been awarded for twenty years, and for the round anniversary, a ranking was created in which Alexey Murashko took first place for the number of awards received: "When I received this letter, I initially thought it was written too strangely and decided it was spam. No joke."
The next morning, Alexey double-checked everything and found out that he was indeed recognized as the best book designer in Europe, as noted by TV3.
For his work, Alexey has received numerous awards in different countries. Interestingly, his work in the field of print design began unexpectedly.
"I was left without a job, but I maintained connections with cultural institutions. People started reaching out to me with new projects, and literally within two to three years, this became my specialization."
Alexey emphasizes that when creating a book, attention must be paid to the entire process. His work only ends when the book is delivered to the publisher's warehouse: "I am a control freak; it is very important for me to control all stages — as soon as you lose control, the entire project can go awry."
Alexey Murashko has been living in Latvia since 2007. During this time, he has not only gained international recognition and become the best designer in Europe but has also repeatedly received the Latvian Book Art Award "Golden Apple."
