The new series will be part of the "universe" of Sony Pictures' projects.
The streaming service Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer for the series "Spider-Man Noir" based on the comic of the same name. The lead role of the alternative Spider-Man is played by Oscar-winning American actor Nicholas Cage.
According to the press release, the series tells the story of Ben Reilly, an experienced private detective who is down on his luck in the grim New York City of the 1930s. After a personal tragedy, he is forced to confront his past and become the city's only superhero.
Cage previously voiced Noir in the animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" in 2018. However, in that film, the mask was worn by an alternative Peter Parker, not Ben Reilly. Despite this, the new series will be part of the "universe" of Sony Pictures' Spider-Man projects.
The producers noted that the project marks Cage's first major television role, known for films such as "The Rock," "Face/Off," and "Leaving Las Vegas," for which he won an Oscar.
Two versions of the "Spider-Man Noir" trailer have been released — the first is an "authentic black-and-white" version, and the second is in color. The series itself will also be available in either version.
Other roles in the series will be played by Lamorne Morris ("New Girl"), Brendan Gleeson ("Braveheart"), Lukas Haas ("Babylon"), Li Jun Li ("Why Women Kill"), Abraham Popoola ("Cruella"), and Jack Huston ("The Irishman").
The series is directed by Harry Bradbeer, known for projects such as "Fleabag," "Killing Eve," "Ramy," "Enola Holmes," and "Enola Holmes 2."
The premiere will take place on the MGM+ platforms on May 25 and on Prime Video on May 27, 2026.
