Miss Malaysia 1983 Played Five Roles for the Oscar-Winning Director of 'Anora'

Eastern exoticism has a chance to become Baker's new cinematic hit.

It has been revealed that Oscar-winning director Sean Baker ('Anora') and actress Michelle Yeoh secretly collaborated on the film Sandiwara, which will have its world premiere on February 13 at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival. The film, created in collaboration with the London fashion house Self-Portrait, was shot on an iPhone. Following the screening, there will be a discussion between Baker and Yeoh. This was reported by Variety.

In the film, set in a Malaysian night market, Michelle Yeoh plays five different characters. According to the synopsis, Sandiwara is described as "an exhilarating cinematic experience that captures the essence of Malaysian culture."

The title of the project, filmed in Penang, comes from the Malay word meaning "drama, theatrical performance, or play."

This is the first film created under a special program by the fashion house Self-Portrait, launched last year to support talents.

On February 12, Sean Baker will attend the opening ceremony of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival to present Michelle Yeoh with an honorary "Golden Bear" for her contributions to cinema.

Michelle Yeoh (1962) is the winner of the Miss Malaysia 1983 pageant.

She graduated from the Royal Academy of Dance in London with a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in choreography and dramaturgy.

Since 2004, she has been in a relationship with Jean Todt, who was the sporting director of the Ferrari Formula 1 team from 1993 to 2007.
