Natalie Portman Criticized the Oscars for Lack of Women Directors

At the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, Natalie Portman presented her film “The Gallery Owner” and expressed disappointment over the low number of women among the Oscar nominees in the Best Director category.

“Many of the best films this year were made by women, but they remain unnoticed,” said the 44-year-old actress. The only woman among the nominees was Chloé Zhao (“The Eternals”), while the others were men: Josh Safdie, Paul Thomas Anderson, Joachim Trier, and Ryan Coogler.

Portman noted that women face difficulties at every stage of filmmaking: from funding to participation in festivals. “Even when a film hits the big screen, it often doesn’t receive the attention it deserves. We have a lot of work ahead of us,” added the actress.
