In the short film "Nadiya" ("Hope"), the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were portrayed by young people from Latvia, reported LSM+ producer Julia Kabitsyna-Kabier.

The main role in the film was played by Ukrainian actress Marina Belous, who lived in Latvia for two years.

Latvian police participated in the filming of the movie — it turned out to be even easier to arrange their involvement than expected, says Kabitsyna-Kabier.

"Through acquaintances, we reached out with this idea, explained the concept of the film, and offered to help with the shooting because we lacked men for the military roles. And a very good response came from the police: they were ready, but would never play the role of Russians. We said: 'Of course, of course, no. We only need Ukrainian soldiers, please — just for two days.' And they, in their free time, simply without any payment, spent their own time to shoot with us for two days."

Was it easy to recreate the visual image of Ukraine here in Latvia? After all, the film tells about Ukrainian events, while it was filmed in Riga and Sigulda. How suitable are our locations?

According to the producer, firstly, it was fortunate that the film did not directly feature Kyiv or any specific cities — it included more bomb shelters and military scenes. "Here in Sigulda, we found a suitable landscape, something that visually fit us," the producer reported.

This is not a premiere, the producer explained — the film was already released two years ago, but now it will be available online, and it can be watched for free.
