Fashion Without Compromises: Rick Owens Announces Complete Abandonment of Fur

The fashion house Rick Owens has announced a complete abandonment of natural fur in future collections and products. The brand's updated position was recorded on December 15 on the official website in the section dedicated to environmental and ethical practices. The company noted that over the past decade it has gradually reduced the use of fur and is now definitively closing this direction.

Previously, fur was used in the brand's clothing, footwear, and accessories; however, practical changes have already taken effect: the mink bag has disappeared from the Rick Owens online store — one of the last fur items remaining for sale.

The decision coincided with the conclusion of the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade campaign. The five-day protests began on December 10 and were specifically aimed at Rick Owens as a brand that had long been associated with the use of fur. Protests took place outside the brand's stores in Los Angeles and New York, as well as in London — outside the Carpenters Workshop Gallery, where the Rick Owens exhibition Furniture: Rust Never Sleeps was held.

The refusal to use natural fur reflects a broader shift in the fashion industry towards ethical and sustainable production. Recently, a number of media holdings, professional organizations, and fashion weeks have imposed restrictions on the use of fur. Rick Owens stated that he will continue to work with alternative and innovative materials while maintaining the brand's signature aesthetic and level of craftsmanship.
