Daily Mail: a British woman who overcame cancer named planning as an important rule of treatment.

A resident of the United Kingdom who successfully overcame thyroid cancer revealed non-obvious facts about treatment. She is quoted by the Daily Mail.

According to 35-year-old Katie Tombs, she learned of her diagnosis because she decided to go skydiving. During the landing, she accidentally injured her arm, prompting her to visit a doctor who sent her for an MRI of her spine. During the procedure, staff made a mistake that brought her neck and a tumor into their field of view. The woman added that upon learning of her diagnosis, she was scared and cried a little, but was not horrified. “I knew I was in good hands and immediately switched to planning mode: I was looking for housing, scheduling appointments. Everything happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to be afraid,” the British woman recounts.

Another non-obvious but important rule she mentioned for cancer treatment is the principle of “not reading anything about your illness on the internet.” Tombs explained that articles provide generalized information that often does not reflect the situation of each individual. Moreover, she stated that she really did not want to associate herself with the numbers in the statistics.

Finally, the woman advised not to hesitate to ask for support from those around you during therapy. According to her, the day she learned about her illness was supposed to be her last working day. However, she told her management about her situation, and on the same day, she was rehired, which helped her maintain her insurance and ease her treatment. Tombs claims that the treatment she underwent was effective, and she has had no signs of cancer for eight years.
