Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will once again appear in the iconic franchise in the prequel 'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes', which will take viewers back to the events of the Harvest 24 years before the original trilogy.
Director Francis Lawrence will bring back the heroes of the original trilogy – Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. Their participation in the prequel, dedicated to sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, will be episodic but key to connecting with the future story.
The new film will tell the story of the Harvest with 48 tributes, which made the Games one of the most brutal in the history of Panem. The cast also includes Ralph Fiennes, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, and others.
Filming was completed at the end of November, and the premiere is scheduled for November 19–20, 2026. The return of Lawrence and Hutcherson for the first time since 2015 has generated significant interest among franchise fans.
