SpaceX has propelled Elon Musk to a new financial record: his net worth is now estimated at nearly $677 billion, making him the richest person on the planet.
54-year-old Elon Musk has become the first person in history whose net worth has exceeded $600 billion, according to Forbes. This time, the main growth in wealth was driven not by Tesla, but by the rapid increase in the stock price of his space company SpaceX.
In early December, the businessman proposed to buy shares of SpaceX, valuing the company at $800 billion. For comparison, in August, its value was estimated at $400 billion. As a result, Musk's net worth increased by $168 billion, reaching approximately $677 billion, breaking his previous record.
As of today, Musk's stake in SpaceX is valued at $336 billion. Additionally, his 12% stake in Tesla is worth another $197 billion, while the 53% shares of his company xAI Holdings are valued at $60 billion. Musk also owns the social network X and other assets. For comparison, the second richest person is Google co-founder Larry Page, with a net worth of $252 billion.
