The Most Beneficial Foods for Blood Vessels Have Been Named

Cardiologist: to maintain the elasticity of blood vessels, one should regularly eat kiwi and buckwheat.

To keep blood vessels strong and elastic, it is important to give up bad habits, engage in physical activity, and maintain a balanced diet, said cardiologist Polina Savina.

The doctor noted that to maintain the elasticity of blood vessel walls, it is necessary to regularly consume foods rich in vitamin C and rutin. Among these, the cardiologist included citrus fruits, rose hips, black currants, sea buckthorn, kiwi, bell peppers, buckwheat, and greens (parsley, spinach, dill, or cilantro).

Savina also recommended including foods containing vitamin E in the diet — a powerful antioxidant that prevents the oxidation of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and its deposition on the walls of blood vessels. The best options, according to the doctor, are olive, flaxseed, and sunflower oils (preferably in cold dishes), nuts and seeds, as well as avocados.

Equally important, she said, are sources of omega-3. "Polyunsaturated fatty acids help lower levels of bad cholesterol, increase the elasticity of the vascular wall, and improve blood flow. They are found in large quantities in mackerel, halibut, herring, salmon, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds," the cardiologist explained.

Another recommendation from Savina is to include foods containing flavonoids such as green tea, dark chocolate, berries, and tomatoes in the diet.
